Shree Gangotri Dham
In Hinduism, Gangotri is revered as the birthplace of the holy Ganga (Ganges) River, making it one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The primary source of the Ganga is the Gaumukh glacier, situated 19 kilometers from the Gangotri temple. Built in the 18th century by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa, the temple stands on the left bank of the Bhagirathi River, surrounded by deodar and pine trees. A short walk from the temple leads to the Bhagirath Shila, a sacred rock where King Bhagirath worshipped Lord Shiva. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and it is believed that the water brought from Gangotri soothes Shiva’s throat after he swallowed the poison.
Shree Badrinath Dham
Badrinath, one of the 108 divya desams or incarnations of Lord Vishnu, holds immense significance for Vaishnavites. The Badrinath Dham is surrounded by the Panch Badri temples, including Yog Dhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri, and Vriddha Badri.
