Shree Yamonotri Dham
Legend has it that the Yamunotri Shrine marks the origin of the Yamuna River, situated on the eastern flank of the Bandar Poonch peak at 3615 meters. Although the official starting point is a frozen lake and glacier (Champasar-Glacier) on the Kalind Mountain at 4421 meters, the sacred site is established at its base on the hill. Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal reconstructed the Goddess Yamuna Temple, and the icy cold water of the Yamuna adds to the spiritual significance. The trek to Yamunotri offers breathtaking views of towering peaks and dense forests. The temple houses a black marble statue of Goddess Yamuna.
Shree Gangotri Dham
Gangotri is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and is believed to be the source of the holy Ganga River. The Ganga originates from the Gaumukh glacier, located 19 kilometers from the Gangotri temple. Built by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th century, the temple is situated on the left bank of the Bhagirathi River. The Gangotri water is brought to the temple of Lord Shiva, and it is believed to soothe Shiva’s throat if he consumes the nectar-laced water.
