Rishikesh to Char Dham Yatra (09 Night / 10 Days)

Overview

Embark on a spiritual journey to the revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each destination holds profound significance in Hinduism, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual sanctity.

Shree Yamonotri Dham

Yamunotri, the birthplace of the Yamuna River, is enveloped by the majestic Bandar Poonch peak. Nestled at the base of Kalind Mountain, the sacred Yamunotri Shrine is a trek away from the frozen Champasar Glacier at 4421 meters above sea level. Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal reconstructed the Goddess Yamuna Temple. The icy waters of the Yamuna and the scenic Yamunotri trek, adorned with towering peaks and dense forests, create a divine atmosphere. Pilgrims offer rice and potatoes, soaked in the hot springs, as prasadam.

Shree Gangotri Dham

Gangotri, the origin of the holy Ganga River, boasts the 18th-century Gangotri temple on the left bank of the Bhagirathi River. Surrounded by deodar and pine trees, the temple is a testament to Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa’s devotion. Bhagirath Shila, a holy rock where King Bhagirath worshipped Lord Shiva, is a short walk away. The Gangotri water is brought to Lord Shiva’s temple, believed to soothe his throat if he consumes the nectar-laced water.

Shree Kedarnath Dham

Situated at 3584 meters above sea level, Kedarnath temple is a sacred pilgrimage site and one of Lord Shiva’s 12 Jyotirlingas. Formerly known as Kedar Khand, it is an integral part of the Char Dhams and Panch Kedar in Uttarakhand.

Shree Badrinath Dham

Badrinath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is a significant place for Vaishnavites. The Panch Badri temples, including Yog Dhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri, and Vriddha Badri, surround the main Badrinath temple.

Uttarkashi, home to Ashrams and temples, is located on the banks of River Ganga. The Vishwanath Temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in India, is a prominent attraction.

Uttarkashi: The town boasts numerous Ashrams and temples, reflecting its association and northern location in comparison to the city of Kashi (Varanasi). Like Varanasi, Uttarkashi is also situated along the banks of the River Ganga.

Vishwanath Temple: The Vishwanath Temple in North India, one of the oldest Shiva temples in the country, was rebuilt in 1857 by Maharani Khaneti Devi of Tehri District in Uttarakhand. Conveniently located in the city center, it houses a revered iron trident symbolizing the divine mother. Within its compound are minor shrines dedicated to Ganeshji, SakshiGopal, and Markandeya Rishi. The temple hosts continuous rituals such as AkhandJyoti, AkhandAbhishek, and daily arti. According to the SkundaPuran, Uttarkashi, also known as ‘Saumya Varanasi,’ is Lord Shiva’s abode during the Kaliyug and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

Shakti Temple: Located directly opposite the Vishwanath temple is the Shakti temple, which houses an imposing ‘Trishul’ standing at about 6 meters tall with a base perimeter of 90 cms. Opinions vary on its construction, but it appears that the upper part is crafted from iron while the lower portion is made of copper. According to legend, this Shakti instilled fear in demons under the protection of the spirit Durga (Shakti), hence its name. Ever since, this revered Shakti has stood proudly at this site.

Uttarkashi’s Weather: Weather ranges from 30 to 35°C in summer, with lovely nights.
